Many people labor under the delusion that simply removing the lint from the lint trap after each load is all that is necessary to cleaning out the dryer's lint trap. Unfortunately, what many don't realize is that even though the lint trap may appear to be clean, a film builds up from using dryer sheets that is invisible to the human eye and doesn't allow air to go through the mesh holes. Cleaning the dryer lint trap properly is a very simple task that needs to be accomplished after every 2 to 3 loads to keep your dryer working effectively.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Vacuum cleaner with attachment
  • Dish soap
  • Nylon brush
  • Clean towel
  1. Step 1

Remove the lint trap from the dryer.

  2. Step 2

Remove as much of the lint as you can by pulling it out with your hands.

  3. Step 3

Use the brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner to suck up as much loose dirt and debris as possible.

  4. Step 4

Fill the sink with hot soapy water.

  5. Step 5

Put the filter in the water and scrub it with a nylon brush.

  6. Step 6

Rinse the filter with clear water. If the water pools in the filter or there is still visible debris, scrub the filter with the hot soapy water and rinse again until the water runs right through the filter with no pooling.

  7. Step 7

Set the filter on a clean dry cloth to dry.
