Nickel-cadmium (NiCd) batteries are rechargeable batteries that store power in a sealed unit with a wired connector plug. The battery stores power in nickel and cadmium cathodes and anodes wrapped in a sealed cell and are commonly found in electronic devices such as cell phones, digital camcorders, laptop computers and portable gaming devices. NiCd batteries must be replaced with matching batteries that are the same size and configuration specific to the device that uses them. Even a battery pack that looks identical may be slightly different due to the size and shape of the wired connector that attaches the battery pack to the device.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Model number of the device.
  • Model number of the NiCd battery to be replaced.
  1. Step 1

Remove the battery cover from the device needing a replacement NiCd battery pack, either by sliding off the cover or removing the screws that hold it in place.

  2. Step 2

Lift the battery out of the compartment and carefully disconnect the plastic plug from the socket on the electronic device by pulling it straight out. The plug is attached to the battery by two thin wires.

  3. Step 3

Note the model number on the battery pack or take the pack to an electronics store to purchase a precise match.

  4. Step 4

Plug the terminal on the end of the battery into the device and replace the cover.

  5. Step 5

Connect the device to the battery charger, as replacement batteries may lose some of their charge over time.

Tips & Warnings
  • NiCd batteries are potentially explosive and should be disposed of properly. Never place any battery in a fire or incinerator.
