How to Put MP3s on Zune

Microsoft's Zune series MP3 players are user friendly, resilient and have a great battery life. The Zune program organizes your songs by artist, album, songs, genre, year and rating. It's recommended that you begin labeling your music files with these added bits of information. Zune will lump songs together that don't have these descriptions attached to them, making it difficult to browse your music collection. Sometimes, MP3s will already have this data pre-programmed on the file. If not, any organizing you do will ensure faster browsing through your music libraries.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the music MP3 files you wish to transfer to your Zune.

    • 2

Right click on the folder or song, and go to the "Properties" selection.

    • 3

Click on the "Summary Tab," and then the "Advanced Tab."

    • 4

Label the song with descriptions in the blank fields in this window.

    • 5

Click "OK" after you are happy with the changes.

    • 6

Install the Zune Software, or download it from Zune.net by clicking the software link at the uppermost left part of their website.

    • 7

Open the software, and connect the USB power cable to the Zune device. A synchronization step will automatically begin.

    • 8

Looking at the picture provided, click the top button circled in red. The image looks like two circling arrows pointing to each other's tails.

    • 9

Drag the entire folder, or one song at a time, by left clicking on the file, and moving it over the words, "Drag items here: to create a list to sync." This area is circled in blue in the above image.

    • 10

Click on the "Start Sync" button, located at the bottom of the image and circled in red, when you have finished moving mp3 selections into the Zune window. You may disconnect the device after the synchronization process is complete.

Tips & Warnings

  • Rename folders and title tracks, while staying away from the folder name "unknown artist" or some other nondescript label. If you like knowing the album track numbers associated with songs, it is best to reserve space at the end of your title, as opposed to at the beginning. This is not a necessary step, although it prevents Zune from lumping together all the 1st, 2nd or 3rd tracks of your many albums into a bank where it can be difficult to browse the files in your library.
