How to Create a YouTube Video

YouTube is considered one of the world's largest peer-to-peer video sharing sites on the Internet today. The YouTube platform allows users to post videos for visual showcasing, marketing, advertising and entertainment. YouTube has become popular by a vast majority of Internet users. It is entertaining, enlightening, and its operation and navigational functions are simplified for comprehensive purposes among users. Creating a YouTube video is also a task that is quite feasible for most users to accomplish. All it takes is a little creativity, time and effort, and your video could be posted around the world in a matter of minutes.

      Open the YouTube website (see Resources section).

      Create a YouTube account. Click on the "Sign Up" link in the upper-right corner of your YouTube landing page when it loads in your browser. You will be prompted to create a username and provide your Zip code, birthday and gender. Enter this information in the available data forms. Scroll down the screen to the Terms of Service section of the screen.

      Read and review the YouTube Terms of Service. In order to make your YouTube account active, you must read, review, and comply to the company's guidelines. Once you have read and reviewed the terms of service passage, click on "I Accept" to confirm and establish your YouTube account.

      Enter your current email address and create a password for your account. The next screen that will load will prompt you to provide this information. Type the word verification that appears in the generated photo above the last blank data form to finalize your account. Click on the "Create New Account and Finish" option to proceed to your account settings.

      Create your YouTube video. Creating your YouTube video can be done by one of two ways: You can either use the Windows Movie Maker (see Resources section) or you can upload a video from your digital camera. If you choose to upload from your digital camera, plug your digital camera's USB sync cable into one of the computer's available USB ports. Once the computer detects the connection, an AutoPlay window will appear. Click on the "Import" action to move the video from your camera to the computer.

      Convert your video to a format that is compatible for playback on YouTube. Click on the YouTube online conversion link (see Resources section). Click on the "Browse" option to search for your video file on your computer's hard drive. Once you have located and selected your video, click "Open" and select the YouTube output file extension to convert the video. Click "Convert" and the full process will conduct itself automatically.

      Upload your video to your YouTube account. Click on the "Account" action in the upper-right corner of the screen. When the screen loads, click on the option that reads, "Start Uploading a Video Now", to upload your newly created video. Click on the "Upload Now" action and select the "Browse" tab to locate your video file on your hard drive and upload it. Follow the YouTube prompts to complete the uploading process.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep your videos within 10 minutes. Most videos that are longer than 10 minutes take an exceptionally long time to upload and be approved.

  • YouTube's content guidelines are strict. Do not upload copyrighted videos or videos that contain derogatory, offensive or vulgar content to your YouTube account. Both your account and the video could be deleted as a result of violation of the YouTube Terms of Agreement.
