How to Export Gmail Contacts

Gmail is a popular free email service provided by Google. Once a contact list has been developed in Gmail, it might become necessary to export it to another program or email provider. This can be done by exporting the list into a CVS file. A CVS file is a kind of file commonly used to transfer list type information between programs.

Instructions

Export Gmail Contacts

1. Sign into the Gmail account.

2. Find "Contacts" on the left side of the screen and click on it.

3. Click on "Export," which is located at the top of the list, usually to the right.

4. Select whether you want to export everything or just a portion of the list.

5. Pick the appropriate format based on where you will be exporting the contact list. You can select among Google's CVS format to export to another Google account, Outlook's CVS format or vCard format for other applications.

6. Click the "Export" button.

7. Select "Save" when prompted, then click "OK."

8. Choose where you want to save your file, then click "OK" again.

Tips & Warnings

• Once you have exported the Gmail contacts, follow the instructions for importing a CVS file that are appropriate for the program being used.
