How to Microwave Softballs

Many avid softball players are particular about their equipment. They prefer certain gloves and bats over others and have rituals to break these items in to make them more usable. The same is true for the softballs. Brand-new softballs are much softer than many players would like. Microwaving them has become a way to get the softballs to harden up. It is a simple technique that takes only a few minutes of a player's time.

Things You'll Need

• Spray bottle of water
• Paper towel

Instructions

1. Fill an empty spray bottle with water. The temperature of the water doesn't matter.

2. Hold up a paper towel sheet and spray it with the spray bottle. You want the paper towel to become moist without becoming soaked. This is why it is important to use the spray bottle and not just put the paper towel under the faucet.

3. Drape the paper towel over the brand-new softball. Make sure it is also covering the bottom of the ball.

4. Set the paper-towel-covered softball in the microwave and set the time for 90 seconds on high heat.

5. Remove the softball from the microwave and set out overnight to cool off. Then use it as you normally would.

Tips & Warnings

• If you don't have a paper towel, you can combine two napkins and wet them with the spray bottle.

• Use a pair of pot holders to remove the softball from the microwave, or you may get burned.
