Stand straight and tall, with a confident posture.

Focus the eyes on the ball, allowing you to meet the ball, as opposed to being met by the ball.

Keep feet wide apart to allow for better balance.

Spread arms out from the body to maintain balance and leverage.

Lock the eyes on the ball.

Keep the eyes open, even though they naturally close when the ball makes contact with the forehead.

Close the mouth to prevent tongue and teeth injuries.
Step8
Head the ball with the forehead, the proper part of the body to use.
Step9
Head the ball with a snap of the neck. Leading up to that, though, the whole body is used.
Tips & Warnings
Start with a stationary ball, which can be held out for the player, or self-served. This is easier than trying to initially learn with a moving head and a moving ball.
Facilitate proper technique. Establish it early to avoid heading the ball in painful areas, and to prevent a subsequent fear of heading.
Use soft balls. Playground or beach balls encourage a beginning player to feel comfortable with this new skill.
For parents of soccer kids, learn some games and exercises. You can do this by reading books, or by watching your child in practice.
Watch the technique of experienced players or professionals.

Heading a ball improperly can cause pain and/or injury. Make sure to snap your neck and to use your forehead. It won't hurt at all if you head the ball correctly.

To increase the power of your header, you should lean backward and then thrust your body forward very quickly and vigorously at the moment of impact, so the work isn't only done by your neck muscles.
