1
Buy stones for a walk way at your local lawn and garden store. If you are digging up old stones, this will be the hardest part. After you have your walk way stones, you will want to lay them out in order to determine exactly where you would like them placed. This is important so that you can determine the distance of where each rock should lay.

2
Make an outline. After the rocks are in place take a shovel and make an outline of the shape of each rock. Do not go to deep with your shovel, just the thickness of the rock. After you have your outline of the rock, lift the rock or flip it over if it is to heavy to lift. Be careful when you do so that you do not crack or split the stone.

3
Remove large portions of earth or grass. If their is grass where you would like to lay your stone walkway then use your shovel in such a way that you can remove a large portion of grass in a whole chunk. Take the large sections of grass and used else where in your yard. (in patches that need TLC) The grass will continue to grow. Again only moving enough earth as the rock is thick.

4
Place the stone. After your have your new rock hole dug, place the stone. It will not be an exact science, however as the stone settles into the earth the walkway will look more natural. It will take a few rains for the settlement to take place.
