Step 1
A blister is a place where friction meets the skin. The body the responds to this friction or rubbing by creating a fluid filled layer, thus the blister. If you notice a hot spot on your foot while hiking or doing anything else this is where the potential blister will come from. Put a bandage over the skin to care for it for now. If this hot spot finally looses the hurting it has acheievd congratulations, you have now formed the cushion of the blister.
-
Step 2
For the moment out on a hike or something physically strenous you can just leave the blister, if it is not in the way of anything or it dosen't hurt, on your skin. Just take some moleskin and cut a blister sized hole in it. Place this around the blister and the apply the 2nd skin to it. This is all covered up by another moleskin. By doing this your skin has the ability to heal from a blister by having the blister created a natural barrier to care for the skin.
-
Step 3
If the blister hurts, or is in an uncomfortable area the the best skin care approach is to have the blister removed. To remove (and properly care for and treat blisters) you will need the needled, Hydrogen peroxide (or iodine), Bandages and the antibiotic oinment.
-
Step 4
Sterilize not only your skin around the blister but the needled as well. To care for and treat the blister and prevent the chance for infection you will need to sterilize everything that will come in contact with the exposed skin. Take your now sterilized needled and rupture the blister (on the now sterilized skin). Drain the fluid.
-
Step 5
Cover the blister skin and all with a bandgae, after applying the antibiotic oniment to it. To care for and treat blisters like this the skin is used as a secondary shield.
-
Step 6
After a couple of days you will need to treat the blister again, this time you will need something to remove the dead skin on top of the blister. A pair of tweezers works nicely, just take these and rip the skin off. Apply more oniment and recover the skin with a fresh bandage. This is how to care for and treat a blister properly.
