Step 1
Observe your Father, or whom ever you are purchasing a Father's day gift for. Take close notice of the things they say when they see something appealing. Begin this observation a few months before Father's day.
-
Step 2
Ask questions about things they like, to get a general idea. Just because they see something they like, does not mean they would want it for themselves. Try making the conversations as general as possible so they don't assume why you are asking. Also, if you do this a few months ahead of the holiday, they really will draw up no correlation.
-
Step 3
Once you have an idea of the things that they like and would want for themselves, take a trip to the stores to see if they are available. This is where you will have the choice based off of your observation, to decide what gift they would like the most.
-
Step 4
Purchase the gift at this time if it is available, or if you have to special order it. Be sure to keep it where your father will not find it. Another option to keeping it secret is to put the item or items on layaway and take them out just be for Father's day.

Step 5
Find a special card to put with your gift and you have your perfect Father's day gift.
