This will explain how to obtain your CCW Concealed Carry Permit Step by Step this is a detailed overview and will help you accomplish your goal in doing this. This CCW Permit is valid in 33 states the states that are included is provided in the link at the bottom. And is valid for 5 years. Please check out my other article on how to renew it. Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • PATIENCE
  • Cost of class
  • Photo copy of your ID
  • 1 (BLUE & WHITE) APPLICANT FINGERPRINT CARD
  • One recent color photograph of passport quality - 2"X2"NAME MUST BE ON BACK OF PHOTO!!
  • A non-refund fee of $65.25 to BCI
  • 21 years old or older
  • Clean/Expunged Criminal Background Record
  1. Step 1
     

    ELIGIBILITY
    Determine whether the Applicant is eligible/capable of obtaining one. You can call the number provided for BCI and should be able to tell you that you might or might not be able to get it.

  2. Step 2
     

    CLASS
    Prospect an NRA/POST certified instructor to take the class. Which usually range from $40 to $100 for the class these prices are really in competition at this time. You can obtain a list of instructors from BCI or you could look on KSL.com Classifieds.

  3. Step 3
     

    FORENSICS
    Get your fingerprints and a Passport quality photo, sometimes these can be obtained by CCW classes that include these in the class and are usually a more costly class but more than likely less than BCI (Background of Criminal Investigations) will charge. But you can still obtain them BCI Fingerprints $13 and $13 for Passport quality Photo as well.

  4. Step 4

    APPLICATION
    You will receive an application from the instructor whom you take this class from this application must be legible with no abbreviations and stamped and signed by instructor whom you go through.

  5. Step 5

    GET IT TOGETHER
    Once you prove you are familiar with firearms in your CCW class and receive your fully filled out/ instructor stamped/signed application, have your Passport Quality Photo and Finger print card, this is the appropriate time you want to get your form of payment of $65.25 and all these documents together.

  6. Step 6
     

    PROCESSING
    Take them in person and by mail to BCI/DPS:
    3888 West 5400 South
    Taylorsville UT 84118-3549
    where they will process it all and send to FBI for Background check and should take no more than 60 Days for your results. If approved you will receive a Concealed Carry Permit ID card.

  7. Step 7
     

    Jump for joy your part is DONE now its time to wait by your mailbox for up to 60 Days to get your results/permit.

Tips & Warnings
  • Get as much information possible from instructor and BCI.
  • You can contact BCI at (801) 965-4445 for further information.
  • Be sure that the Instructor is licensed to instruct the course and listed with BCI you can get a list of instructors from BCI.
  • DO NOT Conceal carry here: California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Wisconsin, and NEVADA Recently Added Effective 7/1/09
