Dark leafy greens are amazingly good for us. Greens have a huge nutrient density and a small caloric density so you are getting tons of bang for your buck when eating greens. Dark leafy greens give you lots of vitamins and minerals, plus the calcium and protein that many people worry about becoming deficient in. Here are some easy, tasty ways to start benefiting from the all that leafy greens have to offer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Lots of leafy greens!
  • Blender
  • Possibly a juicer.
  1. Step 1

Get some variety in your salads. Dark leafy greens usually have a stronger, even bitter flavor than romaine or iceberg lettuce so you may not want a whole salad of them. BUT, start mixing in some other greens with your romaine lettuce to get a higher nutritional benefit from your salad. Even if you do mostly romaine or iceberg lettuce and a little bit of something like arugula or swiss chard you'll be golden!

A whole new wrap! Take some of your favorite sandwich fillings and use large dark greens instead of bread to make a new twist on a healthy wrap. You can play with tons of different fillings and different leaves. Romaine lettuce works well, as do collard greens and cabbage leaves. You can find lots of recipes online too for interesting lettuce wraps.

  3. Step 3

Drink your greens! This might sound scary to some people, but green smoothies are a super simple way to enjoy the health benefits of dark leafy greens. Mix 70% fruit with 30% greens and some ice and you'll have a tasty, filling way to enjoy your greens! Use a variety of greens and different combinations of fruit to get optimal health and flavor benefits!

  4. Step 4

Juice those greens! Try using a juicer to make green juice. Adding apples, lemons, or other sweet fruit really makes green juice enjoyable. Plus you get all the health benefits of greens without having to digest all that fiber. Freshly extracted juice gives you all those living enzymes that raw foodies swear by! Drinking green juice is a huge step towards achieving optimal health.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use of a variety of greens-spinach, kale, arugula, collard greens, swiss chard, the list goes on and on!
