Step 1
First be a good example if you watch TV all day don't expect your kids to be reading. When children see parents read it stirs up curiosity about reading. Your children will want to know why you enjoy reading and may try it themselves.
-
Step 2
Go to the library and sign up for any reading clubs or competitions. Children love to win prizes and receive rewards. First they will read to win the prizes and next thing you know they are addicted to a good book.
-
Step 3
Find books that interest your child. If a kid loves Star Wars find a book about Star Wars. The library has something for every child so do not let them come home empty handed.
-
Step 4
Make time in the day for your children to read. They will not stop and read if you do not designate a specific time. My children love to make blanket forts and read inside the fort. This is a bit of a mess but the fact that they are reading makes the extra effort worthwhile.
-
Step 5
The rewards of reading will stay with a child throughout life. Remember if you teach your child to love reading you are giving them an incredible gift for life.
