Get Cheap Car Insurance for a Young Driver

Cheap car insurance for a young driver can be a challenge to find. However, most young drivers could get cheaper car insurance than they have by simply following a few steps.

Get smart and enjoy cheaper car insurance.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

GET GOOD GRADES TO GET CHEAPER CAR INSURANCE.

Cheaper car insurance comes to those with grades. That usually means an average of B or higher. Check with your insurance company if your young driver has good grades.

  2. Step 2

TAKE DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSES TO GET CHEAPER CAR INSURANCE.

Young drivers can reduce costs of insurance by proving they are trustworthy and safer than average. Most young drivers wreck their cars -hence high insurance.

  3. Step 3
    Save Cash on Insurance

RAISE DEDUCTIBLES TO DISCOUNT CAR INSURANCE.

This works for any driver, not just young drivers and teenagers. A higher deductible means a lower premium. If you can afford to have a higher payout in case of unexpected accidents go higher on the deductible.

  4. Step 4

BUY A CHEAPER CAR TO GET CHEAPER CAR INSURANCE.

This may seem like common sense, but many young drivers think they deserve nicer cars. If you are a parent paying for the insurance suggest a cheaper car or have the driver pay for the difference. Lower risk (not sports car) and cheaper (used) cars get lower insurance rates.

  5. Step 5

OPT IN FOR SAFETY FEATURES TO DISCOUNT CAR INSURANCE.

Air bags, anti-lock breaks, car alarms, automatic seat belts, and running lights are all safety features that frequently get you cheaper car insurance.

See tips and warnings below for more ways to save money on car insurance for young drivers.

Tips & Warnings
  • Talk with your insurance provider to see what other discounts may be available.
  • Put teenager's on parent's insurance rather than on separate insurance accounts.
  • If a college student attends college over 100 miles away and doesn't take a car, ask for a discount.
  • Get at least three different quotes on cheaper car insurance to be sure you get the best deal.
  • Wrecks and other claims can raise insurance. If the damage is below the deductible, consider not reporting incidents that you are not legally required to report.

on 6/13/2009 Great ideas, and not necessarily something people would think of on their own. A high-five.
