How to Get a Man to Smile for a Picture

Men are very stubborn creatures. Anyone who has had little success with getting a man to do what you want can testify to this. One obstacle many face is persuading a man to smile for a picture. There is something in the masculine nature that produces a scowl every time the shutter clicks. Getting a man to "say cheese" takes prodding, but don't despair, it can be done.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Smile at him first. It is natural for a man, or woman for that matter, to return a smile. It is almost as contagious as a yawn.

  2. Step 2

Relax your man with a nice back or foot rub before coaxing him in front of the camera. It is easier to get a relaxed man to soften his face with a grin than one who is all tensed up from a rough day.

  3. Step 3

Promise him something good for letting you get a few pictures of him with a nice wide smile. Make sure you can make good on your end of the barter though.

  4. Step 4

Flatter your guy with sincere compliments. Point out what you love and respect about him. It is easy to smile when you know you are appreciated.

  5. Step 5

Whisper sweet nothings into his ear before pulling out the camera. A little provocative talk can elicit smiles from your partner.

  6. Step 6

Evoke thoughts of a wonderful experience to get him to grin. Remind him of the fun you had in the Bahamas or how his team took home the big trophy. Get him talking about his "victories" and the smiles will come.

  7. Step 7

Offer him a cocktail if your guy is a social drinker. Sometimes he just needs a little "encouragement" to get in the mood to smile for the camera.

  8. Step 8

Instruct him to make as many different kinds of smiles as possible. Men love a challenge, so you are likely to get quite a few good pictures from this technique.

  9. Step 9

Photograph the man in an area where he is very comfortable. Don't take your guy out of his element by taking pictures in an unfamiliar location or making him assume a pose he is not at ease with. Instead, lure him into his favorite chair or position him near his car or truck.

Tips & Warnings
  • Wear something he likes to see you in while being his personal photographer.
  • Don't try to take smiling photos of your man when he is fresh from work. Men need time to unwind before they are ready to engage in this type of activity.
