Instructions

  1. Measuring with a String

    • 1

Wrap a piece of string around the ball at its widest part.

    • 2

Mark this distance, called the circumference, on the string with your pen.

    • 3

Lay the string flat and straight next to a ruler to measure the length.

    • 4

If you're from a metric-practicing country, convert your inches measurement to centimeters by multiplying by 2.54.

    • 5

Compare length to the bowling rules length of approximately 27 inches. If your measurement is much more or less than this measure, check your measurement again.

    Measuring with a Tape Measure

    • 6

Wrap the tape measure around the ball at its widest part. Make sure the middle portion of the tape measure touches the ball as you wrap it around.

    • 7

Mark the distance by placing the numbered distance at the "zero" on the tape measure. Do not place the numbered distance at the end of the tape measure as there is usually a space between the "zero" and the end of the tape measure. Using the end of the tape measure will give you an incorrect reading.

If you have centimeters on your tape measure, you will be able to obtain a centimeter reading without mathematical conversion.

    • 9

Compare the length to bowling rules length of approximately 27 inches. If your measurement is much more or less than this measure, check your measurement again.
