World of Warcraft started out as a challenge for players against a world of monsters and dungeons. While players enjoyed this player vs. environment (PvE) game play, they also demanded an interesting means of battling amongst themselves. One of the areas that allows player vs. player (PvP) combat is the Thousand Needles zone of Kalimdor. Within this zone is the PvP hot spot, Darkcloud Pinnacle. If you want to join the fray at one of the great areas of contention, whether a member of the Alliance or the Horde, then follow the guide below.

  1. Road to Darkcloud Pinnacle

    • 1
      Map of Feralas

      If you have an Alliance character, the journey to Darkcloud Pinnacle begins at Thalanaar in the western part of the Lower Wilds in the Feralas zone. You can fly into Thalanaar from Feathermoon Stronghold, Theramore Isle, Mudsprocket and Gadgetzan.

      The Thousand Needles

      Run southeast along the road from Thalanaar into the Thousand Needles zone.

      Path to Darkcloud Pinnacle

      Continue following the road in a steady southeastern direction. The road will eventually split to the north and south; head south and the plateau upon which sits Darkcloud Pinnacle will lie to the east. There is a series of wooden bridges leading to Darkcloud Pinnacle.

      Freewind Post

      If your character belongs to the Horde faction, the easiest way to reach Darkcloud Pinnacle is via Freewind Post in the Thousand Needles zone. The following towns and cities host a flight path into Freewind Post: Camp Mojache in Feralas, Camp Taurajo in the Barrens, Gadgetzan in Tanaris, The Crossroads in the Barrens, and the Tauren capital city Thunder Bluff.

      Path to Lake

      Once you arrive in Freewind Post, follow the road toward the northwest until you see a lake in the top part of the radar mini-map. It is the only body of water in Thousand Needles.

      Complete Path to Darkcloud Pinnacle

      When the lake is in sight, run north to a plateau. Cross three wooden bridges then follow a fourth bridge along a southern path to Darkcloud Pinnacle.

Tips & Warnings

  • The areas surrounding the Thousand Needles contain monsters that might be too tough to handle if it is your first time heading to Darkcloud Pinnacle. Avoid all monsters along the way.

  • The Thousand Needles is a PvP contested zone, so expect opposition from other players along the way.
