1
Insert a flat-tip chisel into a hammer drill. There are three settings on a hammer drill; set the drill to hammer. This setting will allow the bit to move in and out in a pushing and pulling motion without spinning.

3
Hold the hammer drill at a 45-degree angle with the bit touching the floor. Place the bit next to the thinset ridges on the floor and squeeze the trigger. The bit will rapidly pull in and out of the hammer drill and remove the thinset from the floor.

4
Lock the drill's continuous-running button, located on the handle. Pull the trigger in. While the trigger is pulled in, push the button and release the trigger. This will lock the trigger into continuous-running mode. It is easier on your hands if you do not have to hold the trigger in all the time. To stop the drill, simply squeeze the trigger.

Tips & Warnings
You can also rent an electric power chisel from your local hardware and supply store. An electric hammer chisel works the same way that a hammer drill does. However, you can stand while using an electric hammer chisel.
Make sure that you wear safety glasses. The thinset can hit you in the eye and cause severe damage.
