How to Convert QuickTime Files to MPEG
With the Handbrake application, which is available for free for both Mac and PC computers, you can convert Quicktime video files into MPEG files. MPEG files typically have a .mp4 or .mpeg extension and can be imported into iTunes or played on devices like iPods.

Go to the Handbrake download page (see Resources) and download the latest version of the Handbrake software for either Mac or PC.

Open the Handbrake application by using the Dock on a Mac or the Start menu on a PC.

Navigate to the location of the Quicktime video file that you want to convert to an MPEG file, highlight the file and click "Open."

Click on the "Browse" button to choose a title and location for the converted file.

Select "MP4 file" from the "Format" drop-down menu and "MPEG-4 Video" from the "Codecs" drop-down menu.

Click on the "Start" button at the top of the window to begin converting the file. Depending on the size of the Quicktime file, the process could take up to two hours to complete.
