How to Build a Fountain in a Pot
Fountains are a highlight in any home. Whether you want to build a fountain in a pot for your outdoor landscaping, or to provide a soothing effect indoors, creating the design is as simple as a trip to your local garden-supply retail outlet. Make sure to inquire about a submersible pump that's appropriate for your project. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Clean the pot thoroughly before assembling the pump and hoses. Make sure the pot doesn't leak, as this can damage the pump. Seal any leaks by lining your pot with a black garden liner.
-
2
If the leak cannot be stopped, place the pump inside a smaller pot. Place the smaller pot inside the larger one, and design the water flow to end and begin in the smaller pot.

3
Measure and cut the hose to an appropriate length for your desired effect. Insert one end of the hose to the outlet connector located on the pump. Place the pump in the bottom of the pot and place some rocks or stones next to it to keep it steady while in use.
-
4
Run the hose to the desired outlet in the pot. This is usually somewhere near or above the surface of the water. For example, stack flat stones around the hose to conceal it, and build the stack high enough to create a slow-flowing waterfall.
-
5
Position the electrical cord. Access from beneath the pot is best, if possible. Otherwise, hide the cord as you hid the hose.
-
6
Place a screen around the pump to prevent debris from clogging the hose system.

Tips & Warnings
Install a timer to instruct the pump when to start and stop. Install your timer next to the outlet that supplies electricity to your pump. Add plants in and around the outlet area. Add garden lighting to your fountain to make it a focal point when the sun goes down.
Do not leave electrical cords in high traffic areas. Do not allow the pump to run without water.
