How to Convert DTS WAV to MP3
Digital theater system (DTS) files are designed to work in multichannel surround sound home entertainment systems. Since most computers lack the number of channels needed to properly play a DTS file, there aren't many computer-based media players that will read the files. To use a file captured in DTS WAV format from a DVD in computer-based programs that cannot read DTS, convert it into a more compatible file type, such as MP3.
Instructions
-
-
1
Download Winamp 2.7. Newer versions of Winamp do not offer as many sound-capturing plug-ins. Winamp 2.7 is still available for download, and has the perfect plug-in for converting audio into MP3 files. Follow the instructions on the screens to install the program.
-
2
Download the DTS audio plug-in. This allows Winamp to read DTS files. The plug-in will have the same kind of easy set up as the Winamp player.
-
-
3
Open the "Nullsoft Diskwriter" plug-in in Winamp. Click on "Preferences," then "Plugins." Choose "Output" under plug-ins. "Nullsoft DiskWriter" will be one of the available output plug-ins. Select it.
-
4
Press the "Configure" button. To select a folder, choose "Output Directory." Click in the box next to "Convert to Format," and hit "Browse," which is the button with three dots. Choose MP3 as the output format, and click "OK" to return to the main Winamp window.
-
5
Import the DTS WAV files. To add audio files in Winamp, click on the "File" tab, then the "Add Media to Library" button. The computer's media files will appear in the left pane of the Winamp screen. Add them to the Winamp play list by dragging and dropping files from the left pane into the right pane.
-
6
Click on the first DTS WAV file in the play list, and press the "Play" button. Let Winamp go through the entire play list of DTS WAV files. The Nullsoft Diskwriter plug-in automatically records each song played as an MP3. When the play list is done, there will be MP3 copies of each DTS WAV file in the selected output folder.
