DVR, or Digital Video Recorder service, from Dish Network, allows you to record programming while you are out of the house, pause live television or even rewind live television. Did you miss a key play in a sports event on TV? Rewind it and review the play in question as many times as you want. There are a few ways to record programming on Dish Network's DVR service.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

How to Record on a Dish DVR

  1. Step 1

Power the Dish Network receiver box and the television on. Make sure that you have your television on the correct input to view the Dish Network programming.

  2. Step 2

Locate and press the guide button the Dish remote control. This will be located to the right of the blue right arrow button on the Dish TV1 remote. On the Dish TV2 remote the arrow buttons will be purple in color and the guide button is located near the up arrow.

  3. Step 3

Use the arrows to browse between the channels, now that the Dish programming guide is on the screen. Each show will be represented by a block that corresponds to the time when the show begins and ends.

  4. Step 4

Manually search for shows using the programming guide, or do a program search. When the programming guide is on the screen there will be a prompt for program search. Select the prompt for program search and you can search for shows alphabetically. This will allow you to see every instance of the show that will happen in the next two weeks.

  5. Step 5

Select a show for recording, once you have located it. Push the "OK/Enter" button, depending on your remote, to bring up a sub-menu for the show. This sub-menu will consist of setting reminders for the program, or an option to "Record this Show." Select the "Record this Show" option to record the program.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can set the DVR to a record a recurring TV show, so you won't have to set your DVR every time.
  • Recording HD content can use massive amounts of disk space, limiting the amount of programming you can record.
