Palm trees are a popular indoor plant and are often available in wide varieties at garden centers and home improvement stores inexpensively. Often used as a focal point in the home or brought in from patios during the winter in colder climes, palm trees need the proper care to survive and thrive indoors. By understanding the needs of this tropical plant, you can nurture a palm tree and enjoy it for many years to come.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Place your palm in a bright spot where it will get plenty of sunlight. Under a skylight is an ideal spot for a palm tree that is indoors, or near a window where it will get indirect light most of the day.

  2. Step 2

Keep your palm in a warm room, but make sure it is not near a heating or cooling vent. Palms need enough room to allow good air flow around the trunk and fronds.

  3. Step 3

Water your palm tree when the soil has dried out, and then remove any excess water from the drain pan. Remember that palms are tropical trees; mist the fronds once a week if the humidity is low.

Tips & Warnings
  • Take your palm tree outdoors every 3 to 4 months and soak it down with a garden hose. This will rinse out the excess salts that build up in the soil.
