Lacing your shoes military style, or "ladder style," creates a distinctive look. Once tightened, the laces hold longer, and the ends are shorter to avoid tripping. Learn how to easily lace your shoes military style, and add this technique to hockey skates, sports shoes or boots. It can also be a great way to add variety to the lacing style of regular shoes.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Shoes with laces
  1. Step 1

Begin with unlaced shoes; remove your laces from your shoes if necessary. Thread the shoelace horizontally across the bottom, with the ends emerging outside the shoe.

  2. Step 2

Thread the ends straight up and down into the holes above.

  3. Step 3

Cross the ends horizontally, and bring them to the outside of the shoe.

  4. Step 4

Thread the ends under the vertical laces, not entering any holes.

  5. Step 5

Repeat Steps 2 to 4 until you reach the top of your shoe.
