Sick of all those cheap sprayers built into the bottles of pesticide that you buy. It's almost as hard to pump those things as it is to use a water filter when camping. I once had a sprayer like that with a broken trigger and I had to push a small stick into the mechanism to make it work. It is just not worth it to deal with those things. Backpack sprayers are usually pretty expensive and hard to clean. A mixing sprayer that attaches to the hose is the answer.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1
    High end sprayer

Pick out a sprayer of your choice. You can find anything from $10 on up. Look for the following:

    1) Sturdy trigger.
    2) Sturdy plastic design.
    3) Easy to read measure marks.

  2. Step 2
    Chemical concentrate

Pick up some concentrated applications. Do not use the pre-mixed applications with these sprayers. They will become diluted. The sky is the limit. You can spray fertilizers, insecticides, herbicides, etc.

  3. Step 3

Read the instructions that come with the sprayer. Unscrew the lid and pour as much as you want of the concentrate. That's the beauty of this system, you don't have to measure the right amount yourself. The sprayer does the work for you.

  4. Step 4

Screw the bottle back on. Look at the back of the bottle for the amount per gallon to set the device at. If there is no indication as to the amount needed then stay in the 1-2 teaspoon range to be safe.

  5. Step 5

Turn your hose on and spray the target area. Spray generously but do not get carried away. Be sure to keep pets inside while spraying and not to spray in places not recommended on the bottle's labeling. For example do not spray roundup on the lawn.

  6. Step 6

    When you are through spraying;
    1) Turn off the hose.
    2) Unscrew the bottle.
    3) Turn the hose on and spray out the container.

  7. Step 7

Fill the bottle with water and reconnect it to the hose. Spray with water for a while to cleanse the pumping mechanism and then dump out the excess water.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you are not sure about the what dial setting to pick go low.
  • Use goggles to protect your eyes.
  • Do not spray or allow something to leak around the lawn that is harmful to it.
  • Do not spray when it is windy.
  • Be careful if your lawn is stressed. The chemicals may burn your lawn.
