Hosting a Tweetup is a fun way to network.

Twitter is the latest online social networking craze, and it's only going to get bigger. Twitter is a great place to meet friends and acquaintenances for business networking and fun. If you have several Twitter friends in your city, or you would like to get to know more Tweeps in your city, hosting a Tweetup is a perfect way to meet and network.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Twitter account
  • Tweeps (Twitter friends)
  1. Step 1

If you want to get a Tweetup together, first think of a public place that is centrally located. Think of something fun and casual, such as getting drinks at a pub, having a picnic at the park, or meeting for sushi or coffee. Ask your Twitter friends for suggestions to get an idea of what they would be interested in.

  2. Step 2

Once you decide on a place, set a time that takes into account when most people are available - evenings or weekends. If you decide on a busy restaurant or pub, be sure to call and make reservations. If you're not sure how many people will come, it's better to error on the side of caution and reserve spots for extra people.

  3. Step 3

Now announce your Tweetup! Start Tweeting about the Tweetup and be sure to include the time, date, place and any specific instructions Tweeps will need to find each other. It definitely helps if you have a clear photo of yourself on your Twitter account so everyone knows who to look for.

  4. Step 4

Tweet about your Tweetup starting about a week in advance, and be sure to Tweet about it a few times a day to increase the chances of all your followers seeing it. Specifically send Tweets to people in your city to make sure they know about it. Check your @ replies and direct messages frequently to answer all questions about the Tweetup. Give out your phone number if you feel comfortable, so people can call you if they're lost or running late.

  5. Step 5

Bring name tags to your Tweetup so everyone can write their screen name and their real name since most people only know each other by their screen names. Also encourage people to bring business cards and let each person say what they do for work to make great business contacts.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you're worried about what to do, organize your Tweetup around a theme like pets, cooking, going green, or sports.
  • Be sure to meet in a safe, public place. Bring a friend with you for safety if you do not know anyone else who is coming.
