Do you love having your friends over to order pizzas and watch a movie on Friday night? Why not a put a twist on your regular routine and make your own pizzas instead? You can save a lot of money on delivery if you make your own pizzas and it’s a fun way to get everyone involved. You and your guests can be as creative as you want by experimenting with different pizza toppings or you can stick to the old standards. In this article, you will learn how to throw a Make-Your-Own-Pizza party.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Invite as many of your friends that you think will fit comfortably in your house or apartment. Use Evite.com or send out an email to your friends.

  2. Step 2

Go to the store to pick up pizza supplies once you have a good idea of how many people will be coming. Get the basic ingredients such as pizza dough, pizza sauce, mozzarella cheese, and toppings such as pepperoni or Italian sausage, mushrooms, sliced black olives, and bell peppers. Pick out a few fun toppings too such as sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese, cooked diced chicken, spinach, or basil, and artichokes.

  3. Step 3

Pick up paper plates and napkins for easy clean up. Pick up extra baking sheets if you don’t have enough to bake the pizzas. Grocery stores also have cheap aluminum baking sheets that work just as well.

  4. Step 4

Divide up the pizza dough into personal pizza size portions (about 5-6 ounces) prior to your guests’ arrival. Let your guests roll out their own pizza dough or flatten out with their fingers for a more interactive experience.

  5. Step 5

Clear off and clean some table space to give your guests room to roll out their dough and create their pizzas. Organize different stations for toppings, pizza sauce, and pizza dough, so people aren’t crowded in one area.

  6. Step 6

Pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees while your guests are putting together their pizzas. Remember to spread out the racks in the oven. Bake the pizzas in shifts if there are a lot of pizzas. Each pizza should take 10-12 minutes to bake or until the crusts are brown and the cheese is bubbling. Try out each other’s creations and make more pizzas if people are still hungry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Trader Joe’s has inexpensive ready made pizza dough in their refrigerator section. Or get pre-made pizza crusts available in grocery stories. Some pizza restaurants sell pizza dough; call Domino’ s or Pizza Hut to find out.
  • For BBQ chicken pizza, use BBQ sauce instead of pizza sauce.
  • If you’re getting fresh Italian sausage from the meat section of the grocery section, be sure to thoroughly cook the sausage before using as a pizza topping. The sausage will not be cooked through if you only cook it in the oven.

on 6/17/2009 Supplies and toppings cost just as much as buying a $12 pie at the local pizza place. Plus there is no cleanup and gas expense. Fun idea, but not cost effective as you suggest.
