Ice cream is a wonderful summer treat. Throwing an ice cream social for your friends and family is a great way to kick off the summer season. They're easy to put together and you can plan the event around a fun theme. In this article, you will learn the basics for throwing a summer ice cream social.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a list of friends, family, co-workers and neighbors you want to invite. Pick a date, time, and location for your ice cream social. Send out the invites a few weeks before the event and be sure to include a RSVP date. Use Evite.com or make your own invitations with an ice cream or fun summer theme. Choose a location in a park or in your backyard so everyone can enjoy the nice summer weather.

  2. Step 2

Go to the store to pick up ice cream supplies once you have a good idea of how many people will be coming to the ice cream social. Get the basic flavors of ice cream such as strawberry, vanilla and chocolate. Pick out a few fun toppings too such as chocolate syrup, whipped cream, sprinkles, and nuts. Remember to pick up ice cream cones, disposable bowls and spoons, napkins.

  3. Step 3

Clean and set up the location for your ice cream social on the day of your party. Cover the table with a tablecloth because ice cream can get messy and sticky. Organize different stations for the ice cream, toppings, and bowls, spoons and napkins, so there won’t be too many people congregating in one area.

  4. Step 4

Offer your guests water or other drinks to wash down the ice cream. If you have root beer, you can make root beer floats too.

Tips & Warnings
  • Set up coolers with ice to keep the containers of ice cream in so they will not melt as quickly.
  • Pick a fun theme for your ice cream social such as the 1950s. You can play 50s music in the background or put up posters from that time period.
  • Pick out colorful bowls, spoons, napkins, tablecloths, and cups to help tie together your theme.
  • Remember to check to see if you need to get the right permits to have the ice cream social in a public place like a park.
