Step 1
Free sitesWhen you make your own websites you first need to decide what your site is going to be about and if you plan to monetize it. Then you choose your platform and if you want to begin completely free you pay for nothing, but then again nothing belongs to you either.
Starting free is great, but you need to know that you can wake up one fine morning and it can be gone, poof! This means you have done a lot of work for nothing and you cannot get any of it back. So, if it's important to you don't go the free route, but opt for your own domain and hosting. -
Step 2
Weebly.comDon't get me wrong free site/blogs have their place and are good to use as testing for a particular niche or whatever. In fact, I have a couple of free blogger blogs, but if they disappear tomorrow it won't faze me.
To make your own websites free you can start with Blogger.com, Wordpress.com or Weebly.com. Blogger and Wordpress create blogs and Weebly is a static site. As stated above, you can start free, but they do not belong to you, so always keep that in mind as you work and build. -
Step 3
YoutubeIf you need help there are tutorials on Youtube for Blogger, Wordpress and Weebly that walk you through and go into more detail than the simple instructions given at the site. Their videos will assist you in designing a better site than you could on your own.
If you plan to monetize, Weebly and Blogger allow affiliate links whereas, Wordpress.com does not. Wordpress.com will shut you down, so don't even take the risk. However, with Wordpress.org which requires your own hosting and domain you can use affiliate links or any other type of monetizing you choose. -
Step 4
Marketing toolsStarting out with free platforms is not a waste of time, but if you want to step up your game you need to move on to owning your piece of web real estate. It's not expensive, a domain name is $10 or less at 1 and 1, namecheap or godaddy. Web hosting at Hostgator is $15 a month or less and this pays for hosting all your domains not just one.
As you can see when you make your own websites it's not costly just time consuming. What costs is buying ebooks and other guru material that may or may not end up being a scam. Not to mention, internet marketing tools such as article spinners, autoresponders, keyword and SEO software etc. -
Step 5
30 Day ChallengeThe easiest way to monetize your websites is with google ads; all you do is sign up and when someone clicks an ad you make money. In addition, you can do affiliate marketing for this you sign up to be an affiliate and sell products. Amazon and Clickbank are simple to start out with and come with less chance of rejection.
To conclude, join the 30 Day Challenge it's free and will teach you the basics of internet marketing. Also check out the resources below on affiliate commissions, article marketing and website promotion.

on 8/31/2009 Thanks! You're right, it does take some time to get your site going in the right direction. I'm finding Weebly pretty helpful so far, but good to know about all options. 5*
