Step 1
Hairstyles for Weddings
Do some research to find wedding hairstyles.
• Look on the Internet for pictures of wedding hairstyles.
• Visit your hair salon and look through their hairstyle books or check out books from the library that have pictures and ‘how to’ information about the hairstyle.
• To see what a particular hairstyle will look like on you find a free virtual hairstyle software website. Upload a picture of yourself and look at hundreds of ways you can do your hair for your wedding. You can also change the color of your hair, see how highlights or lowlights add to the look, and some virtual hairstyle websites have the option to add combs and other hair accessories. See how you will actually look is a great way to choose wedding hairstyles. -
Step 2
Hairstyles for Wedding Should Compliment the Wedding Dress
The style of your wedding dress is your guide to how you should style your hair.
• To compliment a dress with a halter neckline or plunging backs wear an updo wedding hairstyle.
• If there are pearls decorating the wedding dress then add pearls to enhance your wedding hairstyle to compliment the dress. -
Step 3
Your Wedding Hairstyle For You
Do not wear a hairstyle that is uncomfortable and is not you.
• You know yourself so do not try look like someone else. You want to be the very best version of YOU.
• Think about all the ways you have worn your hair in the past and go with the way you liked it best.
• Do not attempt a hairstyle that is not you just because it’s your wedding. -
Step 4
Wedding Hairstyles Versus the Weather
The time of year for the wedding is a contributing factor on how wedding hairstyles will make it through the day.
• During the wedding day the Bride will be in many different locations and the hairstyle must be able to withstand the weather.
• Summer weddings can be humid and/or rainy. If you want a straight wedding hairstyle and your hair is naturally curly these weather conditions will have an adverse affect on how you wedding hairstyle will withstand throughout the day.
• Winter, depending on where you are, brings fog, snow, and dry weather conditions.
• March is known for its wind so your wedding hairstyle must be flexible enough to let the wind blow through it.
• Ensure that your wedding hairstyle will work with the season’s weather conditions. -
Step 5
A Wedding Hairstyle and Your Hair
If you find a hairstyle that you really like but do not have the right length hair there are options.
• Start growing your hair out early.
• Consider using clip-on hair extensions to add length to your hair.
• Talk to your hair stylist to find out how to achieve the wedding hairstyle you have chosen. -
Step 6
The Right Hair Stylist
Make sure that a hair stylist you are comfortable with is available on your wedding day.
• If you are getting married close to where your usual hair stylist is book your appointment early to ensure the Stylist is available.
• When you have planned a destination wedding you may have to style your own hair for the wedding so choose a wedding hairstyle that you can manage yourself.
• When you are not getting married close to your usual hair stylist see if they will come to your location or find a stylist in that location and have a few appointments with them before your wedding so you are both comfortable with each other. -
Step 7
Your Wedding Hairstyle and Your Wedding Veil
When choosing your wedding hairstyle keep in mind the style of wedding veil you have chosen.
• Your veil and your hairstyle need to work with each other.
• Show your hair stylist the veil, hat or other headpiece you plan to wear so the Stylist can create a hairstyle that compliments it.
• Do a trial run with several of the wedding hairstyles you like to be able to choose the perfect hairstyle the wedding day. -
Step 8
Countdown to the Wedding Day
It is best to schedule the final cut, color, perm, etc. one – two weeks before the wedding day. If there needs to be any touch ups there is time to fix them. This will help eliminate any stress for the Bride.

on 6/11/2009 I knew I messed up with this on my wedding. Do you think my hairstyle was responsible for the divorce? Seriously though, this is one excellent article on handling hair styles for a wedding. Thanks!
