Pocket bikes (a.k.a. mini bikes or mini motorcycles) popularity is on the rise in the United States. While you can't quite put one of these in your pocket, they sure are small!

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Size: Pocket bikes are sold as mini motorcycles or mini bikes in some areas because they are designed to look like motorcycles on a smaller scale. Pocket bikes weigh approximately 50 pounds and are small enough to be fit in the trunk of most cars. Something a full size motorcycle and dirt bike cannot do.

  2. Step 2

Design: A pocket bike is designed to look and feel like racing bikes only smaller.

  3. Step 3

Function: The function of a pocket bike is typically for bike racing fun. They can be used by adults or children over age 12. Pocket bikes are not used as commuter vehicles in the United States. Pocket bikes are strictly for recreational use.

  4. Step 4

Speed: Pocket bikes generally stay under 35 miles per hour and do not reach true racing bike speeds.

  5. Step 5

Fuel: With pocket bikes, you have your choice of running on gas or electric. Generally speaking, the fastest pocket bikes are gas and the slower pocket bikes are the electric pocket bikes. Electric pocket bikes are easy to charge at home which makes the electric pocket bike very convenient.

Adults generally prefer the gas pocket bike for speed while parents will choose the electric pocket bike for safety of their children since these generally do not go very fast.

  6. Step 6

Cost: Pocket bikes cost about $200-$500 and can be found in many motorcycle and dirt bike shops.

  7. Step 7

Danger: Pocket bikes are very small and can be difficult to be seen by drivers are cars and trucks. An accident between a pocket bike and a car can be fatal.

  8. Step 8

The Helmet. Absolutely do not forget the motorcycle helmet. Motorcycle helmets do save lives and it is the law in most parts of the United States.

  9. Step 9

The Gear: Pocket bike gear is going to be the same as racing motorcycle gear including motorcycle jackets, motorcycle boots, motorcycle pants and motorcycle gloves.
