Play PS2 Games on PS3

Though they are all currently off the market, for awhile there were models of Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console that were backward compatible to the PlayStation 2. What this means is that these specific PlayStation 3 consoles could play PlayStation 2 games. If you own one of these models, you are only a few short steps away from enjoying all your classic games on your 21st-century gaming system.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Specific Model of Sony's PlayStation 3 Video Game Console
  1. Step 1

Find out if your PlayStation 3 is one of the models capable of playing PlayStation 2 games. Certain models are capable of playing PlayStation 2 games and certain models are not. The only models that can play PlayStation 2 games are ones that contain 4 USB ports.
If your PlayStation 3 has two USB ports, it is not a model that can play PS2 games.

  2. Step 2

Put your PlayStation 2 game disc in your PlayStation 3's disc drive. Do this the exact same way you would put a PlayStation 3 disc in the drive.

  3. Step 3

Let the PlayStation 3 load the game disc automatically. After a few seconds, the system will recognize that there is a disc in the drive and initiate it. The game will then load and you can control it, using your PlayStation 3 controller.
