Tossing chicken wings in sauce is a popular cooking practice that adds a blast of flavor to the plain taste of chicken. This recipe prepares a thick, hot and spicy wing sauce that can be used to marinate the wings before cooking, but it is primarily used to coat the finished wings just before eating. This amount of sauce prepared will cover between 13 and 15 whole chicken wings.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Ketchup
  • Apple cider vinegar
  • Hot sauce
  • Honey mustard
  • Brown sugar
  • Black pepper
  • Minced garlic
  • Saucepan
  • Lemons
  • Mustard powder
  • Coriander
  • Ginger
  • Cumin
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon
  1. Step 1

Combine ½ cup of ketchup with 2 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar, 2 tbsp. of hot sauce, ¼ cup of honey mustard, ¼ cup of brown sugar, and ½ tsp. of black pepper. Mix the ingredients together thoroughly until a thick sauce is formed.

  2. Step 2

Mix 1¼ cup of the previously made sauce with 2 tsp. of minced garlic and 1 tbsp. of hot sauce in a saucepan. Juice two fresh lemons by hand, and then add the juice to the sauce mixture.

  3. Step 3

Add 1 tsp. of mustard powder, 1 tsp. of coriander, 1 tsp. of ginger, ½ tsp. of cumin, ½ tsp. of salt, ¼ tsp. of cinnamon, and ¼ tsp. of black pepper to the sauce, and stir until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.

  4. Step 4

Place the sauce pan on the stove and set to medium heat. Allow the wing sauce to heat for 4 to 6 minutes, stirring often. All of the sauce should be hot to the touch after the allotted time.

  5. Step 5

Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the wing sauce to cool to room temperature. Toss cooked wings in the sauce immediately, or store the sauce in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

Tips & Warnings
  • Limes can be used in place of the lemons, if necessary or desired. The juice of three limes should be added instead of two, however.
  • When heating, ensure the wing sauce does not reach a boil. The heating process helps the wing sauce achieve the right consistency and boiling could cause the sauce to become too thick.
