How to Choose a Car Hauler
If you own a race car and have to take it to a track to compete in events, you probably own a car hauler that's perfect for your vehicle. But most people only rent a hauler occasionally, so they don't realize what to look for. From the dimensions of the trailer to the vehicle towing it, there are many factors to consider. Here are some things you should know when choosing a car hauler.

Make sure the vehicle you will use to tow the trailer has the capacity to do so. The worst thing imaginable is burning out the engine of your car trying to pull a trailer that is too large. Every car or truck has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating that denotes the gross capacity that your truck or car can tow. Before you rent or buy a car hauler, make sure that your vehicle can tow it.

Check the capacity of a car hauler to make sure it can handle the weight of your vehicle and whatever else you plan to tow. Find out its GVWR and reduce it by the weight of the trailer. The result is how much you can haul in that trailer. If you plan to buy a car hauler and it doesn't have enough capacity, you can upgrade the axles of the trailer to handle the additional weight.

Know the cargo you plan to haul, because your car hauler needs to have enough capacity to handle it. Frequently, such things as the gasoline in the car, along with other materials and equipment that are to be hauled, are not considered. Build in a margin for error, because you will end up taking more than you realize.

Make sure that your vehicle will fit into the trailer. Measure your car to determine this. It is always a good idea to add a couple of feet to the measurement--front, back and on the sides. If your trailer is 22 feet long, for example, the car to be hauled should not be more than 18 feet long. Doing this will make sure that your car hauler has adequate space to handle the car and equipment without being cramped.
