How to Change a User Name in Windows XP

Microsoft created Windows XP with various methods for you to customize the operating system, from the colors to the graphics properties to the overall look of the screen. Another way you can customize a computer that is running the Windows XP operating system is by changing the user names that appear on the log-on screen and Start Menu.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Click on the "Start" icon on the desktop.

  2. Step 2

    Click on "Control Panel."

  3. Step 3

    Click on "User Accounts."

  4. Step 4

    Select the account whose user name you want to change.

  5. Step 5

    Click on "Change My Name."

  6. Step 6

    Type your desired user name in the box and click on "Change Name." Your computer will recognize the name change immediately and the new name will appear on the Start Menu when you click on the "Start" icon on the desktop.
