Cultural norms are extremely important in Kuwait. There are certain etiquette rules to keep in mind when accepting a dinner invitation in Kuwait. It is important to realize that even with more globalization than any time in history, Kuwait is still a conservative country; male- and family-dominated, and with the ultimate importance placed on Islam. Kuwaitis are hospitable people, but behaving according to their cultural norms is critical. Most socializing for business is done in hotels or restaurants; a home dinner invitation is extended only after a personal relationship is established. Social events are still generally same-sex only; men and women most often meet in separate rooms.

What type of dinner will this be?

Enquire about the purpose of the dinner: business, celebratory or purely social. If the dinner is at the host's home, and you are a man, do not bring your wife unless it is specifically requested; women will be hosted separately from the men by female members of the family.
