Flash or FLV files refer to Flash Video files that are used primarily by the program Adobe Flash. They are largely animation files for the Internet. These animations can often be seen in the form of cartoon-like characters going through a small sequence of actions on a web page. If you want to watch one of these animations with a program besides Flash, or on a portable device like an MP3 player, you'll have to do a conversion.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Conversion Software
  1. Step 1

Download software that can convert Flash (see link in Resources). Since the file will be in a format called RAR, you will need a special tool for "unzipping" the file called WinRar (see link in Resources).

  2. Step 2

Click Download > OK. Depending on your browser, the installation may begin automatically. If it doesn't, open the installation file on your desktop or in your designated download folder. Go through installation, which will include choosing an installation directory. Click "Next" after each item in the installation. After you click the final button to end installation, the program should automatically launch.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Video" tab in the left corner of the main program screen. Choose which format you would like for your video, and then press the corresponding button. Examples include "All to MP4," used by some MP3 players for video, and "All to AVI," a common movie format.

  4. Step 4

Click "Add File" when the new window appears. Browse your computer for the FLV file you want and double click it. Press "OK" in the previous screen. You should now be back on the main screen. Click "Start" at the top of the screen to begin the conversion.

Tips & Warnings
  • Click the "Output Folder" to find your newly converted file.
