How to Configure MS Outlook 2007
Microsoft Outlook is a common email client that ships with Microsoft Office. This tutorial shows how to configure Outlook to work with your Internet service provider's POP, IMAP or HTTP mail server.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open Outlook. From the "Tools" menu, select "Accounts" or "Account Settings."
-
2
Click the "New" button.
-
-
3
Choose "Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP or HTTP" from the available selections. Click "Next."
-
4
Fill in the fields containing your name, your email address and the password assigned to you by your ISP. Check the "Manually Configure Server Settings" check box and click "Next."
-
5
Choose your email service. In this case, it is "Internet Email." Click "Next."
-
6
Use settings that are normally provided to you by your ISP in the next few windows. Name and email address are self-explanatory. Most ISPs use a POP3 server; in the case of example.com, the incoming mail server is likely to be mail.example.com, and the outgoing mail server is likely to be smtp.mail.com.
-
7
Fill in your login name and password. Check the "Remember Password" box so you don't have to type in your password every time you check your email.
-
8
If your ISP requires Secure Password Authentication, click the check box. Click the "More Settings" button to the right.
-
9
Click the "Outgoing Server" tab. If your ISP's outgoing server requires authentication, check the box and fill in the correct information.
-
10
In some cases, you may have to click the "Advanced" tab to change server port numbers. Check with your ISP for this information. This tab is also where you find the mail delivery options. If you would like to leave a copy of your emails on the ISP mail server after you download them, check that box at the bottom of the window. Otherwise, the mail will be deleted from the server after you download. In most cases, this is the preferable option, since it clears up space on the server for more mail, and most ISPs will store your email for only a limited time.

Click "OK" and "Finish" through all of the open windows to exit and save your changes.

Tips & Warnings
Before exiting the settings dialog boxes, click the "Test Settings" button to make sure your applied changes work. Outlook will send and receive a test message to make sure that everything is set up correctly. In the event of a send/receive error, Outlook will notify you about the failure. Log onto your ISP's website before you begin and write down all of the settings (server names, password authentications, etc.) before you begin.
