Connect a 1/8 inch-to-1/8 inch audio cable between the analog audio source and your computer. Plug one end of the audio cable into the "Headphone" or "Line Out" port on the cassette player, and plug the other end of the cable into the "Line In" port on your computer's sound card.

2
Download and install a free copy of GoldWave, an audio editing program (see Resources). Open the program after the installation process is finished.

3
Click the "New" icon in the top left corner of GoldWave. In the "New Sound" menu, set your recording's length and quality with the list menus labeled "Sampling" and "Initial File Length." When you're done, click "OK."
-
4
Press the "Record" button in the "Control" menu located to the left of the main GoldWave window, then press "Play" on the analog source. When the recording is done, click the "Stop" in the button in the GoldWave "Control" menu.
-
5
Click "File" in the top left corner of the GoldWave program, then select "Save As" from the list menu.
-
6
Enter a name for the file in the field labeled "File Name." Choose which file type---such as mp3 or wma---to use to save the recording. These types are in the list menu labeled "Save As Type" (see References below for additional file types). Click "Save" when you're done.
