How to Fill Out a Home Depot Application

The only way to get a job at The Home Depot is to fill out an application online, for both customer service jobs and higher-up jobs, such as corporate management. You can do this from any computer with Internet access, or you can fill out an electronic application at The Home Depot stores. The process is basically the same, except that at the stores, you use a touch screen. A good thing about the online application is that after you've completed it one time, you can save it to apply for additional positions in the future. All you have to do is log in with a username and password.

      Navigate to the Home Depot careers site (see Resources). You will see a "Career Search" menu on the left side of the screen. Select the position and location you want to apply for. Then click the "Search" button. Look through the jobs that come up and click the "Add to Cart" button at the bottom of the page for each one you want to apply for.

      Look at the left side of the screen. You should see an item called "Job Cart." Next to it is an "Apply" button. Click on this button. Confirm the positions you are applying for. Then click "Apply." Click on "Create an Account" to get started.

      Type in a username and password, a question to use if you forget your password and your Social Security number. The next screen reads "Personal Information." Enter your name, phone number and address. You can choose whether or not to enter your email. Click "Next."

      Cut and paste your résumé into the "Résumé" box, or type in the details of your job history for the past five years. Use the "Additional Information" box for a cover letter or anything else you want The Home Depot to know about you in relation to the job. Click "Next."

      Choose which languages you are proficient in speaking, reading and writing by picking from drop-down menus. There is no need to fill out these questions if they are not relevant to the job you're applying for. Click "Next."

      Fill out the screen called Additional Information. This asks if you've worked for The Home Depot before and about your criminal history and employment eligibility. You only need to fill out the questions with red stars next to them. The next screen is the Equal Opportunity screen. Fill out these questions or just click "Next." On the following screen, click the radio button that describes where you heard about the job opportunities you're applying for. Click "Next."

      Complete the final questions about position eligibility. Click "Next." Then click "Continue" on the screen that comes up. Read the application confirmation statement and click on "I Agree."

    This is stupid. The author might as well write an article on how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Also, beware that Home Depot does have a field for entering your Social Security number in the application. Think twice about applying to this company. Only give a SSN after you've been extended a job offer.
