A golf flag hole marker, also known as the pin, goes inside the cup to indicate the location of the hole. The pin consists of two components: the flag and the flag stick. The flag indicates the wind direction and relative wind strength. The flag stick goes into a hole in the bottom of the cup that keeps it perpendicular to the horizon (though not necessarily the green).

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic rod
  • Flag or fabric streamer
  • Golf hole cup
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver

    Making a Golf Flag Stick

  1. Step 1

Cut a plastic rod, such as PVC piping, to a length that enables the golfer to see the stick from her approach shot when placed in the hole. There is no standard height for a pin, though a height of at least 7 feet is recommended.

  2. Step 2

Cut out a flag or a streamer and screw it into the top of your flag stick created in Step 1. The flag should move freely in the wind so as to indicate wind direction and the color should make the pin easier to see from a distance.

  3. Step 3

Drill a hole in the bottom of the cup that is the diameter of your flag stick.

  4. Step 4

Insert the pin in the hole; make sure it is visible from afar, it is standing perpendicular, and the flag sways freely in the wind. Make any adjustments if necessary.

Tips & Warnings
  • Choose a flexible, durable material for your flag stick as it will have to resist the wind and possibly being struck by a ball.
