How to Hit a Fade Golf Swing

Hitting a fade in golf means curving the ball from left to right. The difference between a fade and a slice is that the fade is a shot that is under control and a slice is a not in control. Being able to play a controlled fade is important for two reasons: to turn the ball around a dogleg, tree or an object in your way; or to naturally place back-spin on the golf ball, helping it stop on the green.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a starting target that is roughly 10 yards left of where you want the ball to land. Line up you feet, hips and shoulders with that target line.

    • 2

Open up the face so that it is aiming directly where you want the ball to land.

    • 3

Stay true to the target and make sure you are actively trying to hit a shot at your starting target and not the landing area. This is the most important part of the fade. It is natural for a person to twist their shoulder and just hit the ball straight.

    • 4

Execute the swing and finish with the club high above your head to help promote the fade.

    • 5

Hold the finish and watch the ball curve from left to right and nail your landing zone.
