How to Remove Moles From a Lawn
If you see raised mounds of soil in your lawn, you may have moles. Moles rarely come to the surface. Mostly they tunnel their way through the ground. Moles feed on worms and insects. They don't feed on plants. They're just a nuisance. You can get rid of moles, but not with bubble gum or vibrating sticks. It takes some time and tools. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Determine if trapping moles is legal in your state by checking your local wildlife laws. Most states, except for Washington and Massachusetts, allow moles to be trapped.
-
2
Purchase some traps at your local hardware or home supply store to remove moles from your lawn. A couple examples are the Victor Plunger Style Mole Trap and the Victor Out O'Sight Mole Trap (see Resources).

3
Place one or more mole traps in your yard. Basically, a trap is set by using levers. It's then placed in an active mole tunnel and covered up with dirt. When a mole travels along the already-made tunnel, it sets off the trap. The steel jaws of the trap catch and kill the mole.
-
4
Go back and check the mole trap. When a mole has been caught, release the jaws and discard the dead mole.
-
5
Purchase mole poison at your local hardware or home supply store. An example is Kaput Mole Gel Bait (see Resources). Once you've found an active mole tunnel in your yard, inject the mole gel bait into the tunnel. The mole eats the poison bait and dies.

Tips & Warnings
Moles are beneficial because they eat grubs and insects. However, their tunneling can wreck lawns, gardens and tree roots. Moles can be trapped virtually any time of the year except during frigid or dry weather. During these times, moles burrow down deep. Make sure a tunnel in your lawn is active before you attempt to trap or poison a mole. Use a broomstick and make a hole into the tunnel. After a day or two, check the hole you made. If it's filled back in, the tunnel is being used by a mole.
For your own safety, as well as the safety of others (especially children and pets), read and follow the manufacturer's instructions for the product you buy.
