How to Cut a Double Mat Picture

Measure the top mat. Place the mat with the wrong side facing up, and measure 2-inches on all sides. This will allow for ¼-inch of the bottom mat to show.

Cut the top mat, being careful not to cut past the intersecting lines.
Tips & Warnings
Use a sharp razor blade to finish any cuts that did not penetrate the mat. Do not pull on the mat to finish the cut. Border sizes will vary according to personal taste. The size of the frame and size of the picture will also be a consideration when cutting a mat.
