How to Swing Hybrid Irons

Hybrid irons are becoming more and more important to average golfers because of their ability to get the ball in the air quickly and easily. Hybrids are great for elderly golfers and women because hybrid irons do not need to be swung as hard as regular long irons to get the ball airborne. The instruction in this article is for right handed golfers.

Instructions

    • 1

      Pick a target.

    • 2

Address the ball and aim towards your target. The ball should be placed forward in the stance, as for a 3 or 5 wood.

    • 3

Swing the hybrid club back while shifting your weight onto the right foot. This will get your body behind the golf ball and allow you to sweep the golf ball off the grass.

    • 4

Shift your weight back to the left foot and let the club swing down to the ball. The hybrid iron should not make a divot in the grass, instead it should just sweep the ball off the grass like a 3 or 5 wood.

    • 5

Swing the hybrid club to a full finish and watch as the golf ball flies high and straight toward the intended target.

Tips & Warnings

  • Practice is key to hitting consistent golf shots. See local PGA Professional for more information on hitting hybrid irons.

  • Stretch before performing a golf swing to avoid injury.
