Step 1

* Drainage - Good drainage will allow the soil to drain properly. To keep your garden healthy the plant roots need to be healthy not smothered and the drainage needs to preventing the soil from dry out.
* Do not use a container that is constructed out of pressure treated wood, they may have toxic chemicals that can be harmful to your plants and yourself.
* The bigger the container, the bigger the plant or the amount of plants that can grow to there maturity. -
Step 2
Choose the type of plants you want to grow in your container garden. Do you want to grow eatable plants, perhaps plant with different textures, forms or colors.

Purchase a liner, a lightweight mix soil, a all purpose fertilizer and seeds or plants for your apartment window box garden.You can find these items at your local Home and Garden stores such as Home Depot.

Place the liner inside the box and make sure there are wholes in the liner for drainage.

Place the lightweight mix soil on top of the liner.

Transfer your plants or the seeds and place them inside the lightweight mix soil.

Place your new window box garden were you want to be, and fertilizer, water and TLC.
