You can make healthy crispy rice treats rather than purchasing the store-bought variety. Consider substituting a natural cereal in place of Kellogg's Rice Krispies. The benefits of preparing a healthy treat is that you decide what ingredients you want to use, and the result will be more budget-friendly. Things You'll Need

  • Marshmallows
  • Honey
  • Flaxseed oil
  • Healthy nuts
  • Raisins (optional)
  • Koala Crisp or brown ricel cereal
  • Metal bowl
  • Pot
  • Baking pan

Instructions

    • 1

      Mix 3 tbsp. of flaxseed oil and 2 to 3 tbsp. of honey in a metal bowl. Pour 2 cups of water in a pot over medium heat. Place the metal bowl with the flax seed mixture on top of the pot for four minutes. The pot and the metal bowl will serve as a double boiler.

      Pour 1 bag of mini marshmallows into the metal bowl. Quickly stir in the marshmallows and cook them until completely melted. Turn down the heat and leave the metal bowl on the pot until the marshmallow has completely melted. Turn off the heat.

      Pour in 6 cups of Koala Crisp or brown rice cereal. Grease your pan and hands with flaxseed oil. Mix well. Spread the melted crispy mix into the pan. Spread evenly throughout the pan. Let cool and cut into squares. Place them in plastic bags and transfer them to the freezer or refrigerator for a quick snack later in the park -- or at work.

Tips & Warnings

  • Flax seed oil has about the same effect as using butter. Flex seed contain omega 3 fatty acid that are good for you.

  • Honey help the crispy treat hold it moisture.
