Things You'll Need:
- Metal coffee can (or metal container with a lid)
- Wood chips/trimmings/sawdust
- Kerosene (1-2 cups per can)
-
Step 1
First off be sure you are not near any flames or other ignition sources before working with kerosene. Fill your empty coffee can with any small (under 1 square inch) pieces of wood or sawdust. If the pieces are too big they will not absorb the fuel as well.
-
Step 2
Carefully pour 1-2 cups of kerosene into the can with the chips. Cover and roll the can around gently. Store away from any ignition sources for as long as needed. Treat the can just like a gas can for the lawn mower. I would recommend only using kerosene for this because of the way it burns. I can not vouch for any other fuels to be used.
-
Step 3
To use: Build the campfire like normal spreading the mixture around in the center of the campfire. Use caution as always when lighting. The chips will burn very easily, but because of the saturation into the wood it will not flare up. Rather it will burn longer, giving the rest of the dry wood time to light.
