Step 1
If you are not looking to adopt a pet, perhaps you would be interested in joining the vast group of volunteers who help make this animal shelter the pet paradise that it is! They will train you to help in whatever field you prefer whether it's walking dogs for exercise (a great way for you to exercise too!) or bathing animals or helping to organize one of their many fund raising events.

Step 2
The Animal Welfare Society also has a wonderful Fostering Program that allows trained volunteers to take kittens or puppies home for extra special care until they are old enough to be adopted out. They also need Foster parents for pets who need medical attention while recuperating from an illness or injury. If you think you would make a good Foster parent for a pet please give the shelter a call!

Step 3
The Animal Welfare Society is located on Holland Road in West Kennebunk, Maine. The shelter is open 11:00am to 4:30pm every day except Wednesdays when they are closed. They are also open Thursday and Friday evenings from 4:30 to 7:00pm for adoptions only (no surrenders during those hours). Their phone number is 207-985-3244. You can also email them at info@animalwelfaresociety.org. Feel free to contact them with any questions you may have. They will love hearing from you!
