Furnishing your home can be expensive, many people purchase it on credit and spend 5 or more years paying it off. Here are some tips on finding furniture for all of your rooms for free.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • internet access
  • ability and vehicle to move furniture
  1. Step 1

You have to keep an open mind and some creativity when searching for free furniture. If you planned on having a matching living room set it may be hard to find, so looking for similar pieces that you can get or make matching covers for is a way to get what you want while still finding it for free.

  2. Step 2

If you know what you want you can post a wanted ad on your local craigslist.org and freecycle sites. Make sure that you post in the wanted section and are clear about what you want making sure you say you are looking for 'free' furniture. These are also great sites to search for free furniture in the free section. You can also tell your family and friends what you are looking for they may know someone who is moving and needs to get rid of something.

  3. Step 3

Drive around and look at these places: Surrounding areas of Universities,(you will find a lot at the beginning of most seasons when a quarter has just ended and students are moving) Large apartment complexes, Military Bases (if you have access or ask someone you know who has access to take you)These are the most common places that almost always have new looking furniture that people moving just throw away.

Tips & Warnings
  • When out looking for furniture make sure you are in a vehicle that can fit the item, if you have to make a trip back later it might be gone.
  • Be sure that the item you are taking is in fact free and not just something ready to be loaded in a moving truck.
